The North Royalton mayor is inviting everyone to attend a Community Prayer Vigil for Healing in the wake of the murder of the city’s building commissioner.
Mayor Paul Marnecheck said the vigil is set for 7 p.m. on Monday at Saint Albert The Great Parish, 6667 Wallings Road.
“Our community has experienced a heartbreaking loss,” Marnecheck said. “To provide an opportunity for the North Royalton community to come together in grief, reflection and support, we invite everyone to attend a Community Prayer Vigil for Healing, Peace and Hope in memory of Dave Smerek.”
Smerek, 52, of Brunswick, was killed Friday, July 24, while at work in North Royalton. Officials said the shooting happened at about 1 p.m. Officials added that a suspect was arrested a short time later.
Details on what led to the shooting and the name of the suspect have not yet been released.
